My Journey into Coding

I was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. lived here all my life, grew up speaking English and Yoruba also learned a little bit of Spanish, Though I’ve always wanted to learn to speak an additional language. now I have decided that the languages I will be learning will be in programming.

My interest in learning to code whilst pretty recently has been getting pretty strong pretty fast. Some people say it’s because of the world we live in today, so strongly influenced by technology. I say it’s a mixture of taking a leap of faith and wanting to do something well enough to love what I do.

In early 2020 during the lockdown, I decided It was high time to get my life in order and do something I know I’ll look back at and say, “I’m so glad I did that.” I’m going to be totally honest here, the state and conditions of my country just didn’t work out for me and I know I’m not the only one who doesn’t believe that, but when you see all your peers around you moving on in life, getting their self together, the sense of isolation kicks in and you just start feeling helpless not knowing what you want from life.

…Entering the Coding of World

A few months and here I am halfway through an online coding Bootcamp program at Microverse School-based in San Francisco, California. Before joining the program had to get through the admissions process and a bit of prep work. Apart from a little dabble into JavaScript, HTML, and CSS through free online resources for a couple of months, I had no real prior experience with any sort of programming before.

I found that sites like Codecademy and freeCodeCamp were great places to start for a newbie like me, it allowed me to see what I was getting myself into without necessarily making a heavy commitment, which is ideal at first. However, I thought I would eventually need to put myself into an environment outside my comfort zone. As an introvert, I tend to require time to warm up to social situations, but at the same time I needed to get out more, meet new people, and for my own sanity switch into a career I’m actually excited about.

Little did I know that I’d actually warm up to my fellow Bootcamp peers so quickly. Over the course of a few weeks, I have come to really bond with many of the people on the course. There’s something about being in situations with people where they’re encountering the same experiences as you that just make friendships grow quickly and the fact that it was online just sounds unbelievable to some people. So far this is definitely something about this Bootcamp that I didn’t necessarily expect (and I mean that in a good way).

Most of what I will be blogging about here will be technical in nature, where I will be sharing things I’m learning about at Microverse as well as certain projects I will have been working on. I’m super excited for the journey ahead as it has only just begun. Stay tuned for more!
